Liposana® Fat Pad Restoration in Miami & Hallandale Beach
Does it feel like you’re walking on bone? The Schottenstein Center is proud to now offer Liposana®, an advanced regenerative therapy designed to restore the natural cushioning in your foot. Dr. Julie Schottenstein uses this minimally invasive, in-office treatment to help patients with heel pain, ball of foot pain, and loss of natural padding get back on their feet — comfortably.
What Is Liposana?
Liposana is a cryopreserved human adipose (fat) tissue allograft — a ready-to-use, ethically sourced fat graft that restores the protective fat pad under your heel and forefoot. When implanted, Liposana acts like a “biological boot” inside your foot, providing:
- Cushioning and shock absorption
- Even pressure distribution for protection
- Support for natural healing and repair
- Lasting comfort that becomes your own tissue
Unlike temporary dermal fillers, Liposana serves as a regenerative scaffold that integrates with your body’s own tissue over time. And because it is an off-the-shelf allograft, there is no liposuction or surgical harvesting from your own body — a key advantage over traditional autologous fat transfer.
Why Your Foot’s Fat Pads Matter
The fat pads in your feet act like natural shock absorbers, protecting your bones, joints, and nerves with every step. Over time — due to age, injury, or chronic pressure — these pads can shrink or wear down. This condition, known as fat pad atrophy, affects thousands of people every year. Without that natural cushion, every step places painful pressure directly on your bones and joints.
Symptoms of Fat Pad Loss
You may be a candidate for Liposana if you experience:
- Bruise-like pain under the heel or forefoot
- Burning or “stone-step” pain when walking on hard floors
- Pain that eases when sitting or padded, but returns on standing
- A tender spot underfoot that hurts to the touch
- A callus or corn that keeps coming back despite trimming
Fat pad atrophy can also contribute to heel and arch pain, forefoot pain (metatarsalgia), and — in patients with diabetes or neuropathy — an increased risk of pressure points and skin breakdown that require specialized diabetic foot care.

What to Expect: The Liposana Procedure and Recovery
Liposana is a simple, minimally invasive procedure performed right in our office — no hospital stay, no surgical incision. The injection typically takes less than an hour, and most patients walk out the same day. A typical post-procedure protocol looks like this:
- Days 1–3: Stay off your feet as much as possible and let your body begin the healing process.
- Days 4–7: Light walking is okay while using an offloading boot.
- Weeks 2–4: Slowly resume movement with light activity as the new tissue settles in.
- After 4 weeks: Ease back into the activities you love — and enjoy the difference.
Frequently Asked Questions About Liposana
How long does the procedure take?
Usually less than an hour, and it is often performed right in our office under local anesthesia.
Is Liposana safe?
Yes. Liposana is derived from donated human tissue that is carefully screened and processed in accordance with FDA regulations, and no product-related adverse events have been reported. Minor swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site can occur but typically resolves quickly.
How is Liposana different from fillers?
Dermal fillers add volume temporarily. Liposana provides real adipose tissue that integrates with your body for lasting support, stimulating and preserving your own fat tissue structure.
How long does it last?
Studies show cushioning and pain relief lasting 18 or more months — significantly longer than standard fillers or gel pads.
Can Liposana be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Depending on your condition, Dr. Schottenstein may recommend Liposana alongside custom molded orthotics, stem cell and PRP injections, or other conservative therapies as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
